Kiddie Party Spaghetti (Sweet Spaghetti)

As I was growing up in the Philippines, this is the only spaghetti I know. The one always served on birthday parties with fried chicken and grilled hotdogs. That's why in my childhood, I don't quite enjoy ordering spaghetti from restaurants as I find them on the sour side.

This is also belongs to one of the the first dishes I learned to make. I remember during summers, my cousins and I would chip a few pesos to buy the ingredients for spaghetti and we'll cook the spaghetti ourselves. It was such a fun experience to remember. I think there was 4 of us who loved to cook so we were assigned to do the cooking, others assigned to go to the grocery and buy the ingredients, one assigned to ask permission from her parents to use their kitchen and the rest assigned to clean up afterwards. I can still remember that one time, when we thought of not sharing the the meal with others who had not shared the cost of the ingredients, we decided to use the hot and spicy kechup thinking that the smaller kids will not be able to eat a spicy spaghetti... well they couldn't eat alright! We couldn't either!!! hahaha! It turned out too spicy for our own good and nobody, even the adults could handle it! Serves us right for not wanting to share our food! haha!
Last night, I couldn't think of anything to serve the little girl so I decided to make spaghetti for her. The previous night I served her asian style pasta but she didn't particularly like it. I guess she finds a hint of hoisin sauce too much for her own liking. So I decided to play it safe this time and do the spaghetti the traditional "Pinoy" way :)

Ingredients:
1 pkt (200gms) spaghetti noodles (cooked as per package instructions)
100 gms minced beef
3 small bottle banana ketchup (UFC brand, if available)
1 small can tomato sauce
3tbs cooking oil or butter
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 medium red onion, finely chopped
3 tbs soy sauce
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground pepper
4 tbs sugar
2 tbs cream cheese
grated cheddar cheese
salt to taste
Method:
Cook noodles as per package instructions, drain and set aside.
In a sauce pan, heat oil. When hot, add the minced beef. Cook until drained with any excess water. Add the garlic and onion. Saute for at least 5 minutes until meat is browned and onion is translucent.
Add the soy sauce and pepper. After two minutes, add the tomato sauce and banana ketchup. Let simmer for 10 minutes, stirring from time to time to avoid the sauce from sticking unto the pan.
Add the sugar and cream cheese. Let simmer until the cream cheese is fully dissolved.
Add salt to if necessary to suit desired taste. Turn off Heat.
Scoop some noodles into a plate, pour over sauce and top with grated cheese. Enjoy!
Added Tip: You can also add some diced hotdogs and sliced mushrooms in the sauce if desired.
