No, we didn't watch any opera, but for those of you in Qatar, would probably already know what I mean, it's one of the famous bakeshop cum coffee shop cum restaurant in the country, also famous for their chocolates. The other night, before going to sleep I promised the girls that we'd finally watch Monte Carlo if they have only 1 homework each. So yesterday, our Big Ate made sure that she only brought home 1 homework, one which she couldn't do by herself (drawing of a tongue and naming all parts) the others she already completed in school so that we can use our homework and free time to go see the film. Unfortunately, when we got to the Landmark Mall, the movie had already been taken out. Such a disappointment! The girls have been looking forward to watch Monte Carlo with me since before they have flown in to Qatar and we've already made it a date. Now the other movie choices are not to their liking so we just decided to do our grocery shopping instead.
On the way to the supermarket we stopped by to say hi to my sister in law who works at the Opera, as expected, she had some take out goodies for us so we just said we'd come back for it after we're done. But then the Expat Daddy decided to follow us and of course the big sister that she is when he saw her brother, invited us to dine in. So that's an unexpected dinner treat for us! Thanks to sis in law :)
Whenever we are at Opera, we always anticipate the bread and butter served before every meal. We love their bread, whatever kind, but most specially their dinner rolls (which is not shaped as a roll, lol!), so perfect with just butter :)
Our small ate was served first with her chicken soup. Unfortunately she didn't like it too much, she says there's a different taste to it. But of course at 5, she still is not very adventurous with her food choices. For me the soup is ok, although not very special, yes, it doesn't exactly taste like chicken soup even to me, I think its got some hint of tomato in it plus it's got more veggies in it instead of chicken, I actually thought the chicken soup was a mistake.
With the soup came Expat Daddy's Opera Salad. I didn't like it much, tasted so ordinary for me, came with greens and corn a their own dressing. I don't think we finished the salad.
Then her pizza came. I chose the 4 cheese pizza for her. The pizza is great, thin crust and the size is just right. I decided not to order for myself as I knew, the Fam's order would be good enough for all of us. So our Small Ate, Big Ate and myself each had a slice of pizza. our Big Ate would have taken another slice but I stopped her, I knew if she had another one she won't finish her own food.
Last and best of all the main courses arrived. It was T-bone steak for our Expat Daddy and a Filet Mignon for our Big Ate. Now of course this is the best part! We so love the steaks at the Opera more than any other theme restaurants in the country, for the main reason that it was just grilled with simple salt and pepper seasonings, we just love our steaks that way bare from any sauces which is what's normally offered in the other restaurants.
The T-bone steak came with a baked potato and some veggies while the Filet Mignon with 2 scoops of mashed potato topped with cheese and veggies. Both the Big Ate and I liked the mashed potato better as it's got more flavor than the baked one.
Personally I also loved the Filet Mignon more than the T-bone. I ended up sharing only with our Big Ate and left the Expat Daddy alone with his T-bone. But make no mistake, they are both sooooo good, it's just that the Filet Mignon is to die for!
At the end of the meal, we were served with 2 complementary servings of strawberry cheese cakes, which was a waste since we were so full with our meal, we don't have any more space for any dessert, plus, we find the cakes to sweet for our taste.
It was such a pleasant dining experience with the mostly Filipino staff who are so pleasant and approachable, and very efficient too! Guess that's why Opera employs mostly Filipinos, they just knew we're the best! :)
I ENJOYED!

Disclosure: My sister in law paid for our meal, she works at the Opera Landmark :)
